October 2022. We live in Saskatoon and had a leaky shut off valve for our outside water. The valve was an old circular type that wears out after 20 years or so. We called Action Plumbing and Heating to come give us a quote to replace it with new lever type ball valve. The message we received was that a journeyman plumber would be at our place between 1030-11am on Tuesday. I was out of the house until 1020 am Tuesday but the plumber arrives at 10am and my wife lets him in and shows him the valve that needs to be replaced. She works out of the house and goes back to work. He does not give a quote for the job before he starts the work. 4 hours later (if you can believe that!) he is finally finished and tells me the invoice will be $546. I almost dropped over. To replace one leaky valve? I phoned a friend of mine that used to be a plumbing inspector for the city of Saskatoon and he said that the range should be $150-250. At the most! After some discussion with their head office the bill was reduced to $360. Please be aware that this plumbing business is a ripoff of the worst kind. Go with a more reputable company and get a quote before any job!
