ABOUT   Services Excellence Summary

Founded in 1983 in San Francisco, the Caldwell Snyder Gallery has grown to include three new locations. The gallery's Sutter Street, Union Square, downtown St. Helena, and Napa Valley locations offer 12,000 sq. ft. of exhibition space, and the Montecito location is available by appointment in Santa Barbara. Monthly exhibitions at these sites feature contemporary painting, sculpture, and fine art photography by more than 50 international artists. The gallery is a member in good standing with the San Francisco Art Dealers Association. The gallery's staff actively assist private collectors in building collections, finding works of art, and providing advice services. They also help to establish or sustain private galleries. With customers across the globe and a strong reputation for exceptional service, the gallery's collection is diverse and intriguing. Oliver Caldwell got the gallery off the ground in 1983. In the early years, it was a selling space for the company he worked for at the time. During those ten years, he decided to open up a gallery that would specialize in collecting art that was of excellent quality and was able to cater to his customers' specific needs. Once he opened his own gallery, he began to collect unique and unusual works. Oliver has been involved in art all his life and has been able to amass a vast and varied collection of modern paintings, sculptures, and fine art photographs from all over the world. Today, Caldwell Gallery remains an up-and-coming and cutting-edge art gallery with over 50 contemporary artists in his collection. He has been able to establish this gallery from scratch and operated it without interruption for three decades, managing several other spaces, including its former NYC and St. Helena location. Over the years, the establishment has actively participated in major art fairs all over the world. During the late 90s, Caldwell Gallery was purchased by the owners. The former restaurant was gutted and transformed into a bright, open, and 9000-square-foot exhibition space. Oliver Caldwell, the gallery's co-owner, reveals that “acquiring the Sutter Street Building was a statement by the gallery that we were taking the long view.” We took that risk by investing in brick and mortar, eliminating our escape hatch. Our clients and artists wanted us to be clear that we are in it for the long-term. Caldwell Gallery has been able to develop lasting relationships with artists and collectors over three decades. Susan Snyder, the gallery's co-owner, believes that one of her proudest achievements is how we have helped artists as they change their art. It's been fulfilling to create trust between our clients and artists, and witness audiences respond positively to our efforts. For over 30 years, Caldwell Gallery has been at the heart of the International Contemporary Art Movement in San Francisco, California and the world. Entering its fourth decade, the gallery is committed to evolving its program. It will continue to respond to new art and new ways to reach audiences, but it will maintain its strong aesthetic foundation that has made it successful for over 30 years. Caldwell says that today's art audience is inundated with imagery. Viewers have seen millions of landscapes, abstracts, and figures, among other types of art. It's up to you—the viewer or the collector—to find your voice in art and make it meaningful. For Caldwell Snyder and its artists, the goal is still to get their art out into the world and to connect with the widest audience possible.
