When I began this, I was a Chihuahua/Italian Greyhound mix named Spartacus. I had never trained a dog before. Chihua, a five-pound Chihuahua/Chihua, was my first dog. He had many issues that I was not prepared to fix. He was a four-year-old dog that was untrained and neurotic. He hadn't been potty trained and wouldn't understand my commands, and he would cry when I left him alone. He was scared of strangers. It took two people to cut his nails, and he bit me now and then. I had no idea how much contradictory advice there was in dog training after reading as many books as possible. The methods I tried didn't work. It was only after trying out countless methods that I found one that worked for us. Through patience and persistence, Spartacus was able to learn many commands. He learned how to sit, stand up, walk, and come to me. He was also trained to ring the potty bell, greet people calmly, and sit still while I painted his nails. Also, he stopped biting me. He is deaf and blind but knows how to follow my commands at the age of fifteen years. Even though I haven't asked him to learn anything, he is still a great dog. After watching Spartacus transform, I decided to make dog training my career. I have always loved dogs, so, after gaining more knowledge and experience with them, I started a dog-walking business of my own. I also volunteered at a dog training center. When I started taking clients, I spent two years watching amazing trainers. I became a dog training professional once I was awarded a CCPDT certificate. Each dog is different, from their owner to their behaviors. I start by learning about your dog's behaviors and environment before designing a training program for your dog and its owner.
