Wings Gymnastics was founded in 1980 by the Burnaby Unified Gymnastics Society (BUGS). BUGS had free access to Cameron Recreation Centre's Sports Hall twice per week for a total four-hour period to provide gymnastics programs to Burnaby residents. BUGS was home to 27 gymnasts, three coaches, and the Head Coach. Over the years, the partnership between BUGS & Burnaby has changed: BUGS became Wings, and participants and coaches increased. The free access to the Sports Hall was increased from 4 to 8 hours. We are committed to providing safe, enjoyable, and fun gymnastics for all levels of members. Our club is family-oriented and has strong connections to surrounding areas. All children from 4-18 years old have the chance to learn gymnastics in a supportive and safe environment. We partnered with Gymnastics BC Play in 2012, a Gymnast Development Model based upon the Long-Term Athlete Development Model (Canada)). The program is the culmination of many years of research. It has been broken down so that it can be used by all levels and ages of our sport. Our Wings programs continue to be influenced by this established model. It reflects Wings' philosophy of fun, and fitness, and will allow Wings to continue offering the best programming. Wings have a complete gymnastics equipment collection. All of our coaches have been certified by the National Coaching Certification Program. They also hold first aid certification. Wings Gymnastics is a registered member of Gymnastics BC. Our coaches and instructors are also members.
