Wings Gymnastics

Wings Gymnastics began in 1980 when the Burnaby Unified Gymnastics Society (BUGS) was founded. BUGS negotiated twice-weekly, four-hours-a-day, free access to Cameron Recreation Centre's Sports Hall for gymnastics programs for Burnaby residents. The program included 27 of Burnaby's gymnasts, three coaches, and the Head Coach. The BUGS-Burnaby partnership has transformed. BUGS has become Wings and attracted more participants and coaches. Since the inception, the free access to the Sports Hall has increased from four to eight hours (Wings, 2019). The access helps us to accomplish our mission of providing safe, enjoyable, and fun gymnastics for all members. We are a family-oriented club situated in Burnaby and connected to all its communities. Our welcoming approach provides all children aged 4-18 years with an opportunity to learn gymnastics in a supportive and secure environment. Wings got certified by Gymnastics BC Play in 2012 (`About us: Wings history`, n.d.). Wing's program is a Gymnast Development Model founded on the Long-Term Athlete Development Model (Canada). The program is an attempt to simplify decades of investigation into a more manageable program to assist all levels and ages of the sport. Wings programs continue to reflect this program. Wings' philosophy of fun and fitness is the essence of this program (Wings, 2019). This program will enable Wings to continue its legacy of the best gymnastics. Wings has all the gymnastics equipment required. Our coaches hold diplomas from the National Coaching Certification Program. The coaches have an emergency (first aid) certificate. Wings Gymnastics is a registered member of Gymnastics BC. Our coaches and instructors are members (Wings, 2019).
