About this business

Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts) has been a key contributor to Canadian and global visual culture since 1926. The reputation of the AUArts was built on its exceptional resources, award-winning faculty, and the professionalism and skill of its alumni. It was initially established as the Alberta College of Art, part of the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). Although the two campuses remain close to each other, ACA split from SAIT in 1985 and turned into an independent, public-funded, autonomous art and design college. To offer Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees, the Alberta Government agreed to the degree accreditation to the Alberta College of Art in 1995. The school was renamed to recognize its design education commitment; this is Alberta College of Art and Design (ACAD). ACAD offered its Bachelor of Design in 2000. On January 1, 2019, ACAD was given the university status and renamed itself as Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts). 2015 will mark the enrollment of the first AUArts graduate students in the Master of Fine Arts program, a milestone toward its vision of becoming a world-class education center, research engine, and a launchpad for innovation and creativity.
