ABOUT   Services Excellence Summary

This class is designed for Journeyman or graduate hairstylists specializing in Men’s grooming to improve their skills and grow their clientele. Participants will learn how to master current barber trends by creating trendy men’s haircuts and mastering the techniques required. Low, high, and bald fades are the hottest trends in barbering right now. Today's fashion trends include hair tattooing and detail with hard parts. Today's man's fashions are more scissor over comb, creating texture and length variations. This course can look at the use of the scissor-over-comb techniques rather than the electric clippers. Professional product use and styling will be important in the teaching to reproduce today's masculine looks. The instructor, John Radu, is a master barber and by day, a stylist and master hairdresser by night. With over 20 years in the beauty industry as a barber, stylist, educator, platform artist, entrepreneur, and platform artist, he is a 1997 MC College Hairstyling graduate from Calgary. John founded Cannibale Barbershop, Calgary's first barbershop/lounge.

My experience with Christina (the student) that did my hair on Saturday at 12:00 pm was awful in Calgary. 1) The student I asked her for her suggestions, she said nothing. While I understand she is a student and just learning, this does not take education to give someone your honest opinion and take some interest. I finally asked her to get the instructor, Crystal, who advised me that the hair color in the picture I chose was too dark. I agreed that I would be going to go lighter as long as it matched my skin tone and you could tell it was different. She said the hair style would be a variation of what I chose because the model had thicker hair which was fine with me. The hairstyle is not at all what I asked for. It is too long and has no shape, but a big bulge at the back. 2) Foils: The student seemed nervous the entire time and not confident at all. My expectations are not high at all. I have been to hair schools before and had students do my hair and they at least had some interest in what they were doing and the cut/color was great, it just took longer which was fine with me. The instructor asked her if she left the foils on for a certain time and she said "I think so" She asked if she used a "10" and she looked at her phone nervously and said yes . I don't think she left them on long enough and I am not even sure if she used the right color because my hair looks exactly the same. It was supposed to be lowlights and highlights and while it was not supposed to be the same color as I showed the instructor and student; it was supposed to be just a bit lighter. 3) The cut: She basically gave me a basic cut and cut off a few inches. The instructor came to help and told her to do the same thing she was doing. I was told it would be a variation of the picture I showed them, but it looks nothing like it at all. 4) Styling I was told that they would show me how to style my hair (this was included with the fee), but the student just blow dried it and sent me on my way. Then she asked me if I would like to purchase the products she used, but I didn't even know what she used because she didn't communicate with me! Overall, whenever I asked a question, I felt as though I was just supposed to sit there and accept it. The instructor was busy with other students and only came when I asked the student to get the instructor since she didn't seem to know what she was doing. I told the instructor and the student I could not see any difference, but they assured me I had lowlights and highlights, disregarding my feedback, 4) The receptionist The receptionist asked if I liked my hair when I went up to pay and I said no, and she just said maybe you need to wash it. I paid, thinking that it may look different when I got home, but after looking at it and asking other people, they also said it did not look a lot different-just a few inches shorter, but you can hardly tell. Overall, the experience and the finished product were not good. If I had wanted a few inches off of my hair, I would have paid $10 for a haircut, not almost $100. I have called the salon and emailed the director, but I have heard nothing back. I am very disappointed.
