Jamie holds a dual degree in architecture from McGill University and criminology from the University of Cambridge. His architectural and criminological knowledge has influenced his approach to urban development. Architecture, he says, has the power to drive social change. As an artist and photographer, Jamie recognizes the importance of composition and design. Jamie is also interested in the way strong construction principles can be integrated into the earliest stages of every project. Jamie believes the choice and skilful use of a building's construction system should be linked to its architectural expression. Jamie has worked on many building types and understands several construction systems, such as pre-cast concrete (Cast-in-Place Concrete), structural steel, and the wood frame. Jamie works effectively with both private developers and not-for profit groups. He specializes in mixed-use, commercial, and office projects. Jamie is also a proficient collaborator with many different approval authorities throughout Western Canada. Jamie thinks it is important to deal respectfully with these organizations to secure project approval and build a good working relationship. In 2003, Jamie wrote his Master's thesis in criminology on the analysis of safe building design such as Defensible space and CPTED. These principles may be applied to various projects.
