Went to my orientation at VCAD today. It was excellent.Abdul did a great job. After the tour, I feel excited to start my classes. Thanks for making me feel comfortable.
DO NOT ATTEND! This school is an absolute scam, especially the game design and development program. They took some rudimentary modelling courses, jammed them together with some basic animation courses and then called it game design. I learned almost nothing about building a game from them, I actually had to use youtube to teach myself how to do most of the projects, instead of learning from the instructors. The curriculum for the only class that actually uses a game engine "level design" focuses on unreal engine 3. That version of unreal is 17 years out of date! I aced every single course and still have no idea where to even begin making a game. I actually won their outstanding achievement award (best in class) and every game studio I've applied to has told me to keep expanding and working on my skills. This school does not teach you what you need to know to get a job in the industry. The recruiters are allowed to say whatever they want and the school doesn't care or even attempt to honor it. I was told I would "learn everything you need to know to make a game", "would be learning current industry standards" and "the higher price tag is worth it for the quality of the education". None of this was true. I've been arguing with them for months to get a refund because I was lied to and I've been told they don't have to refund me because they taught everything in the program plan, AND that the teachers can change the curriculum so it doesn't matter if they've taught everything in the program plan. So they've tried to say that they fulfilled their contractual obligation AND that the contract doesn't matter. Shady does not begin to describe their practices. Sign up for some Udemy courses and find some instructional youtube channels, you'll learn more than you will here, and you'll save yourself 40k.
