About this business

A day in the classroom at Crestwood Montessori SchoolPeer to PeerWelcome to Crestwood Montessori School. Dr. Maria Montessori fought for educational reform in the early 1900s. She discovered that children learned easily from their environment through her experiments. This is where "the absorbent brain theory" originated. adn The Montessori classroom gives children the opportunity to experience a variety of stimulating areas designed to lead them to different developmental stages. It allows children to freely choose the materials they need in an environment filled with carefully planned activities. The children work alone and are not disturbed by others. Children are all enthusiastic to work together or separately with visitors. Some will spray a plant; some will prepare apples for friends; and some will have fun with the moveable alphabet on a floormat. Some will be busily creating words, crafts, or sewn buttons on burlap. Some will take care of the school by putting away completed tasks, cleaning up forgotten items, or wiping down surfaces that appear to be dirty. However, all are encouraged to show grace and good manners. The school children will learn that a Montessori teacher is not like a regular teacher. In traditional teaching methods, the teacher guides children. In Montessori, the teacher is the guide. The Montessori teacher trusts each child's abilities. Research with children under five years old has shown that they can learn on their own. The Montessori teacher is trained to observe the child and plan and present lessons based on their abilities and interests. The Montessori teacher is also known as a scientist observer, showing the ultimate goal to helpictured them to be successful.
