Studio/home: Carrie Steele & Cara-Lee Ireland Carrie and Cara-Lee were first business partners and then friends. Carrie started her business in 2006 with her friend Cara-Lee Ireland, who was also her former partner. Metal Clay Alchemist was founded by Carrie in 1995 to supply metal clay products online. Metal Clay Alchemist is now Canada's leading online supplier of metal clay products. Carries' daughters were the business's backbone, handling daily operations. Carrie was a metal clay pioneer, and Cara-Lee was a senior certification instructor of Art Clay. Carrie, as a teacher at the time, was interested in standardization. Carrie believed that educators should either have a standardized education or be well-versed in the medium they use to teach. There was no online information available at the time (how times have changed!). They were lucky to find English versions of the Japanese-only books. Carrie and Carla Lee set off on an adventure to train other metal clay instructors to share their love of this medium. The business has undergone several name changes and transitions. The business was once called Spirit of the Rock. It changed its name to Art Clay Canada in 2011 and then Metal Clay Alchemist, Cara-Lee was diagnosed with ALS, and Cara's partner Carries slowly faded from the business. Carey gave up her job to plunge into the company. Carrie was determined not to let Carla-Lee's dream fade. Metal Clay Alchemist is continually growing in collaboration with other companies.
