Social-emotional growth is crucial for Deer Lake Early Years Care and Learning and Deer Lake Full-Day Child Care Program. We empower children to achieve their potential by fostering positive life skills. A caring, supportive atmosphere develops socially accountable children. At Deer Lake Child Care, we aim to create an environment where all children can explore and engage in open-ended learning. Teachers must reflect on each child's strengths and interests and co-construct the curriculum with them. We acknowledge that each child learns differently and at their own pace. We provide equipment, activities, and materials to all learners. We believe that children can be taught positive life skills and will become more socially responsible when they know what these are. Children must be conscious of their own needs in order to manage themselves. They need to learn to be accountable for their bodies and minds. Teachers build their self-awareness and responsibility. This includes supporting them to recognise and communicate emotions and their needs for toileting, food, sleep, hygiene, eating, thirst, dressing, and cleaning up after themselves. Our emergent curriculum is based on the children's interests. It is also inclusive and anti-racist. This means that we are open to all cultures and families and that we aim to create a better community. The strength of our community lies in its diversity. We see the children as caring, intelligent, and competent, and we actively encourage... our program to suit their individual needs.
