My job two years ago was as a Psychologist at Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital in Thunder Bay. I worked with people who had paranoia and psychotic depression symptoms like delusions, hallucinations, and paranoia. There were many valuable lessons learned from this experience, such as the importance of compassion, tolerance for others, human dignity and respect for those who are suffering and the value of just sitting with them. When I moved to Vancouver in 1989, I took a position as a psychologist at Vancouver Health Department in Kitsilano and began private practice within fifteen minutes. Nearly all my work since then has been with adult patients. I see a lot of people in my office who want to share their struggles with depression, anxiety, and relationship issues. The people who come to see me are often very courageous and willing to learn deep lessons from their experiences. They are what I call "amazing teachers" for me. Mindfulness is my primary therapeutic approach, but I have a lot of experience in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy and many other methods for helping people heal from their mental health challenges.
