DIANA KOLLAR (SHE/HER). I have been working in counselling and helping for more than 20 years. Although my work with clients shifts, I still base my therapeutic work on one concept: "The individual is the expert within their own lives." This idea has informed my work and I have dedicated myself to assisting them in connecting with their inner wisdom and strengths to overcome obstacles to happiness. I believe that everyone can have happy, safe, connected and emotional relationships. This is what I like to help my clients achieve. It is my intention to be trauma-informed and anti-oppressive in my work. I know that my privilege is inherent and I acknowledge that intersectionality influences my life. I try to avoid engaging in socio-political factors that impinge on my clients' mental health and wellbeing while we work together. I acknowledge that my mind is affected by oppressive systems in our society. I want to restructure my thinking. When I make mistakes, I will correct them and accept responsibility. Your courage and vulnerability in doing your work is a daily inspiration and honor for me. I am a white settler, first generation Canadian. My parents' untreated or managed trauma greatly affected my mental development and family relationships. My parents’ trauma led to unhealthy family dynamics. I reflected these behaviors in my adult relationships. I have been exposed to my humanity and healing through therapy. I now have healthy and strong relationships with my family and myself. The benefit of my trauma is that it has helped me to be more empathetic, compassionate, and a change agent. I want to heal trauma and build healthy relationships for everyone to create a thriving society. I would like to help you achieve these goals.
