Laura recently worked for me. Charged me a $4000 retainer but was billed for $5000. After reminding her that we agreed on $4000, she later asked for an additional $700 or so, and then some more additional money ($1000 I think). When it was all over, I continued to get bills. I got an invoice for $971.33 in March this year, which made no sense. I emailed her and Gareth, requesting an explanation but heard nothing back. Then in April, I got a bill for $86.10, again with no explanation and still with nothing from Laura or Gareth. I got another bill for $52.97 on December 9th, again, with no explanation and no word from Laura or Gareth. And then I got a bill for $1357.03 a couple of days ago. I enquired but still nothing. It looks like Laura and her firm have turned into a bill-printing machine and wish to just get money from people for reasons that befuddle us all. Unless this stops or is rectified soon, I will have to request that the emails stop arriving as it is beginning to be a matter of harassment for me. I have invited them to a taxation hearing so that, after 9 months, we can have an adjudicator force them to explain all these mysterious bills. The lack of correspondence with me is also a flagrant violation of the canons of legal ethics according to the Law Society of BC - so I might have to contact them to get this problem dealt with. A lawyer in BC has a duty to communicate with her client in a reasonable time and I'm sure that 9 months with no response to my original inquiry is less than reasonable. If you're ok with this kind of approach, then I recommend Laura and her team as they practice law. If this kind of stuff makes you suspect, then the market is flooded with lawyers - many of whom would not have allowed this kind of thing from happening. But she is a nice person and a good lawyer.
