Legacy Art Galleries, situated at the University of Victoria, is a platform that uses art to instigate discussion regarding vital issues. With academic and community partnerships, the gallery’s exhibitions and programs support research and learning. The Legacy Art Gallery Downtown is UVic's primary art gallery. It operates as a dynamic and vibrant art space where art is widely displayed, accessible to the public, and rotated. Over 2000 artworks from the Legacy collection are exhibited in public spaces on campus and two other exhibition locations. Visit them all for free! As UVic's art collection steward, Legacy Art Galleries maintains the collection, which includes around 18,000 pieces of Canadian, Indigenous, and international historical and contemporary art. This allows Legacy to use the collection to study, research, and learn for faculty, students, and the public. Legacy helps fulfill its academic and teaching missions using the collection in displays on campus, scholarly projects, and public occasions and programs. Displays change at three locations: Legacy Art Gallery Downtown, 630 Yates St; Legacy Maltwood on campus in the Mearns Centre for Learning-McPherson Library; and First Peoples House. Over 2000 works from the Legacy collection are exhibited in various university buildings and the community. The art displayed in the community and on campus demonstrates its role in educating and community-building. Legacy Downtown hosts public events, university programming, and community activities. Regular activities, including the Williams Legacy Chair, help the university meet its academic and learning goals. Established in the gallery, the Legacy co-op enables students to have practical experiences in the museum and collections field. Internships and work-study programs prepare students for future careers.

The helpful staff go out of their way to create a comfortable atmosphere and contribute to visitors' excellent experiences. The gallery enforces Covid-19 precautions and also encourages public participation and education through events and programming. Overall, the collection experiences that is changed often warrant a visit due to the building's elegance and the rigorous curatorial work. The gallery further encompasses past university of Victoria art in addition to their own. The visibility of the art gallery is increased by the events, friendly staff, educational facilities and consistently outstanding exhibits.
