About this business

Mark Loria Gallery is a leading contemporary indigenous art gallery in Canada, specializing in Northwest Coast art pieces. This gallery, based in Victoria, BC, has been showcasing the best local indigenous artists in Vancouver Island, BC, and Canada for over 40 years. Four to six exhibitions are held a year, with new art from indigenous artists regularly added to the collection. We have the world's largest fine print collection. The gallery also features paintings, sculptures, textiles, ceramics, and wearable art. Through donations to artist local communities, we help protect and preserve these arts. Our gallery is part of Alcheringa. The Aboriginal Australian term, Alcheringa, means the Dreamtime – the mythical creation era when all creatures and the earth were created through song. As in the Northwest Coast, Australia's myth and song maintain their spiritual world and landscape. The invisible song-lines also anchor Mother Earth. Our art is based on this idea and ritual. The artwork represents sacred art, the supernatural, and secrets in indigenous art, which is beyond what is shared or visible.
