In Norse Mythology, Valhalla was the hall of the fabled slain. This otherworldly abode was the last resting place of the noble and brave Viking. Twenty-five years of snow, torrential rain, icy wind, rainbows, and rainclouds mark this beautiful valley of granite and lush alpine meadows. Everyone was invited to enjoy the feast, endless drinks, music, and the best company. A handful of forward-thinking Kootenays residents in the 70's convinced the then-BC Government to establish a park on the forgotten, neglected, and isolated Southern Selkirk Mountains near New Denver, Nelson, B.C. This Valhalla Provincial Park is our favorite mountain playground. The park is remote, rocky, huge, and gorgeous, and the land around it is all designated as Endeavor Wildlands Provincial Park or Valhalla and Goat Range Parks. In 1990, the mountain gods of the Valhalla Range took pity on us and showed us the light. We didn’t need to fly down to some exotic location to find outdoor gear and clothing. All we needed was here, right on our doorstep, in the rapid weather changes and the hard wear and tear of Valhalla. We opened the first full-service outdoor store, Valhalla Pure Outfitters, and set up shop in our local communities to help others get out and experience nature’s beauty.
