U-Haul was started in 1945 as a US moving trailer and truck rental company in Phoenix Arizona. The company was founded in a garage in Ridgefield Washington by Leonard Shoen, Anna Mary Carty Shoen, and family. They then franchised it with gas stations. A U-Haul dealer and center is a one-stop shop offering services such as U-Haul trucks and trailers, self-storage, moving boxes and packing supplies, U-Box portable storage, propane (LPG) refills, trailer wiring, and trailer hitches, with many items aimed at the do-it-yourself mover.
