In 2002, Virginia Cox and David Cox established the Fall River School of Performing Arts, a family opera house, in the former Windsor Junction Elementary School. This location is down the street from the Cox family home. With five children already committed to the arts, this family opening the Fall River School of Performing Arts (FRSPA) changed the entire community. The neighborhood lacked an arts school, and the Coxs' purpose in establishing this one was to enhance the lives of others while also improving the community. Twenty years later, the couple has made this dream a reality with the support of a dedicated team of teachers. The FRSPA has developed into a family-oriented arts hub, with the Coxs and community members waiting to progress in the years of private music study. We offer private lessons on every major instrument, as well as dance, musical theatre, and drama with Nova Scotia’s best teachers and performers. The FRSPA has always aimed to offer high-profile performances, including musicals and groups, rock camps, plays, and recitals, and students always build connections and enjoy music together. Our alumni have successful careers in music production, performance, promotion, as well as non-musical careers like science and medicine. These arts and real-world experiences have stood the test of time, even as our students come from all over the Halifax Regional Municipality. Fall River School of Performing Arts is widely regarded, and we still offer private lessons with all the major instruments. We do this with experienced teachers who often perform as much as they teach. Our staff is enthusiastic about helping each student learn and grow as a musician. We encourage students to take a holistic approach to learning, combining practice, practicality, and active participation in their learning to integrate music into their everyday lives.
