Peel Manor Long Term Care Centre, formerly the County of Peel House of Industry and Refuge, was established in 1898. Initially, the buildings were short with three floors, and it served as a home for only ten men and two women during the reigning year (Peel Manor, 2020). The manager, the matron, and the physician managed the house and watched over the limited number of residents. In 1909, Peel and Halton Regions were responsible for the administration of Peel Manor (Peel Manor, 2020). However, in 1952, the two regions shared the cost equally, but in 1960, Peel Regions became the sole owners and contributed 1/3 of the cost (Peel Manor, 2020). Furthermore, there is a beautiful garden around Peel Manor, maintained by volunteers. A majority of the areas were taken up by several families who resided and have their loved ones living there. They have always come and tended to their chosen areas of the garden whenever they come to see their patients. The garden was designed in such a way that everyone can enjoy their stay in the area. The raised planters that were incorporated into the garden allow the residents with disabilities feel the essence of gardening during the summer.
