About this business
The AGH is the heart of a lifetime of learning and a space for creative exploration, enabling everyone to engage with and understand art. Established in 1914, the Art Gallery of Hamilton is the largest and oldest public art gallery in the southwestern part of Ontario. The gallery's permanent collection comprises more than 10,000 works, making it one of Canada's most outstanding collections.
AGH is dedicated to creating a safe and inclusive space for all. The Gallery continues to provide programs and exhibits that foster dialogue, educate, and celebrate the diverse range of artists and art produced in our region. Our community will ultimately decide whether it is a safe space or not. We acknowledge that fact.
The AGH mourns with Indigenous Communities in response to the tragic discoveries of unmarked graves of Indigenous Children and Families. The recent discoveries demand a more comprehensive investigation into the inhumane acts committed by churches and governments. They also offer further evidence that genocide was carried out against Indigenous People throughout the nation. Within museums, art galleries, and other systems, Indigenous Peoples' current and historical conditions need to be acknowledged and addressed.
