In my life, physical movement has been a constant love. As a child, I was a gymnast from the ages of five to sixteen. I loved it. Then I started road biking. I cycled the rural roads around Grimsby, Ontario, where I have lived my entire life, for many kilometers. I was always physically active, but my challenges have been vast. I have had injuries and illnesses, my body has changed, and I have four children, all of which have made it difficult for me to maintain an active lifestyle. It doesn't help that good habits are difficult to establish and maintain. I know what it feels like to try to be more physically active early in the morning before the children wake up, only to feel unwell. I find it less difficult in theory, but more challenging once the world starts pushing me down. Even though I am a personal trainer, I don't really look forward to exercise a lot. I have always loved physical activity because I enjoy the challenge. Nonetheless, I should acknowledge that I am in the minority. These days, many women find exercising difficult to do. It's challenging to see exercise as something that needs to get done, but it is not like taking out the trash—a task you can forever postpone.
