KWAG – your local public art gallery – connects people through the art of today, with an evolving focus on contemporary culture. KWAG is committed to presenting dynamic programming and exhibitions as well as fostering a dialogue around visual arts, allowing the people of the Region to create, imagine, think, and express ideas. The Permanent Collection, founded in 1956, has grown to include over 4300 pieces. Exhibitions often draw from this Collection to create dialogues around contemporary issues. KWAG holds charitable status and operates as a non-profit organization, offering most of its programs and exhibitions free to the general public. KWAG's administration and management are conducted in the public interest. KWAG is a community-based organization that offers transformative artistic experiences to adults, families, and children. The Rick Hansen Foundation has awarded us Gold Certification for our accessibility. The Blue Umbrella Project (r) has recognized our space as dementia-friendly. Please refrain from wearing perfumes, essential oils, and other scented products in any KWAG facility. These products may cause respiratory issues, allergies, and sensitivities in people with asthma, environmental illness, and other conditions. Our gallery promotes inclusivity, and we thank you for respecting this simple request. The first Saturday on every month, KWAG hosts a Sensory Friendly event from 10 am–12 pm (the gallery opens its doors at 9 am for those artists who would prefer to wait before the event officially starts). During these hours, light levels (luminosity) around the gallery are reduced by approximately 20% (from 500 lux to 400 lux) and the volume of sound in the exhibition areas and lobby is also reduced. This event is designed to create a calming, quiet, and low-stimulation environment for artists on the autism spectrum or people that prefer a lower level of sensory stimulation.
