The agency serves more than 15,000 seniors annually and operates 805 long-term care beds to provide homes and healthcare. This facility offers various support services and community programs. Yee Hong also helps seniors build their organization and systems through consulting services, Private Career College and research. Live your best life with independence, dignity and health. Yee Hong provides a wide range of culturally informed services and compassionate care for seniors living in any setting to enhance their physical, mental, social, and spiritual health. Our experts offer integrated, high-quality, holistic care and support for individuals and organizations. The Chinese Community Nursing Home for Greater Toronto was the centre's first incarnation. The Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care began as a plan to build this long-term residential home for the elderly. Joseph Wong, our founder, started fundraising in 1987 after seeing the situation of elderly Chinese at Toronto nursing homes. Joseph and 30 Chinese Canadian friends set out to build a nursing home for grandparents and parents. Since 1990, the main fundraiser has been the Dragon Ball. The Chinese people host it in black tie, attracting donors and volunteers from many communities, along with politicians including the Prime Minister of Canada. The Yee Hong Centre officially opened in October 1994. The Yee Hong Centre Scarborough McNicoll K.C. Poon was increased to 155 beds in 1997. The Ministry of Health provided 715 beds to Poon, the highest amount ever given to an Ontario non-profit. The fundraising work of the Yee Hong Centre Capital Campaign funded the centres at Markham Ho lai Oi Wan (2002, 200 beds), Mississauga (2003, 200 beds) and Scarborough Finch-To Heung Chan 2004 (2004: 250 beds).
