Workshop Boutique, from where Flock sprang, opened in Ottawa's Byward Market in April 2005. The (then) teeny-tiny shop was given the finishing touches. We had a super fun grand opening party where we hung out with friends, and a ton of our goodies were bought, and we made some sales. The following day, we had to close the shop to do our tax returns. It was a real Bridget and Christina beginning. (-: It feels like a long time ago and yesterday, all at once. (20 years ago) It was just two strong-willed women, both fashion designers, who wanted to live and make their way in Ottawa. Our city has always had a hard time getting recognized for its fashion! We wanted somewhere to sell our clothes, but we also wanted somewhere that we could shop that fit our ideals. We wanted a place where it was easy to do things right: where things were hand-made, local, or sustainable, or some combination of those. We wanted the shop to be our own special brand of crafty and unique to us. We wanted the shop to be filled with things that made us smile, gifts that were fun and functional, and clothes that made us want to rip them off the mannequins and take them home with us. So, we made it happen. We hope you like it as much as we do.
