Legal Aid

Prince Edward Island Legal Aid provides legal help and representation for those with serious legal cases in criminal, juvenile, family, and civil matters. It has nine attorneys on staff and two offices, one in Charlottetown and the other in Summerside. Private sector attorneys also provide referrals when multiple lawyers are needed or staff attorneys are restricted by professional conflicts rules. You qualify for criminal legal assistance if you need legal help during a criminal trial. This program provides legal services for young people and adults who qualify and are financially unable or unwilling to pay the cost of legal representation. Criminal legal aid is meant to ensure that everyone has a fair trial, and nobody is wrongfully convicted.
