Griffith Edwards Centre: Addictions Unit at McGill University Health Centre Our primary goal is to support clients in abstaining from alcohol and drugs with our treatment programs. Since clients at the Addictions Unit may require different approaches, there are two pathways. It is advised to complete the referred treatment plan, but a shorter duration may be suggested. Another outpatient pathway is short-term individual counseling and follow-up. The therapist will identify various strategies that you can use to achieve and maintain abstinence. The team approach is employed, and a combination of two or more therapists may be used. All clients must undergo a urine test when therapy begins. This is ensured in your first assessment and explained clearly. Inpatient detoxification is used in some cases, which could be recommended at your first assessment. Extended care in a therapeutic community is the most common form of continuing care for clients at Griffith Edwards Centre: Addictions Unit.
