About this business
Innocere Yoga: Creating a Safe Space (2021)
The journey began like thousands of other human beings', long and difficult. The story follows how the studio began and the struggles it faced. I first discovered yoga in San Diego in 2006 while working as an aerospace engineer. It was a practice that I absolutely loved. After some time in California, I returned to Montreal to continue practicing yoga full time. Things were stressful and confusing. Life was chaotic. By chance, I encountered Dr. Madan Bali, an instructor. At the time, he was 89 years old. This wise old sage became a mentor for me from then on. My first Teacher Training with him was precious, and I am thankful every day for that. My intricate and agonizing questions led Dr. Bali to tell me, "Keep practicing, and you'll see the results."
During a five-hour flight back home from Montreal, I realized that my courage had disappeared. It seemed like I had no courage. I was now jobless and did not have a decent home to live in, so I settled to stay in the basements as I continued to look for a suitable place to grow my future studio. Two weeks after learning that I had found a place, I signed a long-term contract immediately because my goal was to open Hot Yoga Studio in the place that needed major renovations and would take three years to get fully finished.
Construction began in 2018. I was part of every detail from design to closure. Every type of issue was met. It overwhelmed me; from contractors dropping Jobsite to leaking roofs that needed to construct. There was no rest, revamping, or respite.
We were forced to shut down two months after opening. We were to be shut in 2020, but after a brief hiatus, we had to rebuild the community.
Hot yoga studio location in the Plateau Mont Royal. (Innocere Yoga, 2021)
