McDougall Gauley LLP has a robust history that begins in 1891. Norman MacKenzie, George W. Brown, and George MacKenzie founded MacKenzie Brown, Regina, Saskatchewan on September 15, 1891. The Honourable Norman MacKenzie, K.C. was born in Sarnia, Ontario, on June 24, 1869. After completing his legal studies at Upper Canada College and being called to the Ontario Bar, he moved west to apply his newfound knowledge. MacKenzie was a well-known Regina lawyer and a generous arts benefactor. In 1936, MacKenzie passed away and gifted his art collection along with an endowment to the University of Saskatchewan College. This was done so that Saskatchewanans could have great pieces of Saskatchewan artwork displayed. Norman MacKenzie K.C. left the MacKenzie Art Gallery. The Honourable George W. Brown was born on May 30, 1861, in Ontario and is a Canadian politician. He was educated at Mount Forest High School and Brantford College. In 1882, he went west. Brown was a well-known lawyer and became Lieutenant-Governor in October 1910, serving until 1915. In 1910, when Brown left to become Lieutenant Governor, the firm's name changed again to MacKenzie, Thom, Bastedo, Ward and McDougall. As law firms were legally required to list every partner in their name, it continued to change. Over time, the name of a lawyer who became a judge was removed from the name of the firm. McDougall Ready Wakeling was the new name of McDougall Ready. When Wakeling was appointed as Court of Appeal Judge, it was changed to McDougall Ready. McDougall Gauley’s roots extend back to its founding lawyer in 1891 and to is the University of Saskatchewan in 1924. Tom Gauley was born and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He obtained his university studies at the University of Saskatchewan right after the depression from 1931 to 1933. After completing his studies, Mervyn Woods, M. Ursel Bastedo, the Honourable Walter B. Francis, Q.C., and Tom’s good friend and law partner, W.P. Bastedo, invited Gauley to complete his articles entry the practice of law. Mervyn Woods and Walter B. Francis, Q.C., invited him to join the law firm Francis Woods & Gauley on October 1, 1945. Gauley practiced law with some of the top lawyers in Saskatoon for 58 years and was involved in many of the most important cases in the province. McDougall Ready and Gauley&Co. were merged on January 1, 2001 to create McDougall Galey, the LLP (which stands to stand for Limited Liability Partnership) that was made in 2004. eparator Posted in Uncategorized
