Canadian courts do not use the multiplier method. This calculator adds your financial losses (treatment and care costs, and lost income) to a pain-and-suffering range for your level of injury, based on typical Canadian awards: about $5,000 to $40,000 for minor injuries, $50,000 to $150,000 for moderate ones, $150,000 to $350,000 for serious permanent injuries, and up to the national cap of about $470,000 for catastrophic ones. The total is then reduced by your share of fault under Saskatchewan law.
Saskatchewan drivers are on SGI No Fault coverage unless they chose Tort coverage. Under No Fault you cannot sue for pain and suffering after a crash, except when the responsible driver is convicted of impaired driving, criminal negligence or deliberately causing harm.
This applies to anyone hurt in a crash involving a vehicle, including pedestrians, cyclists and passengers. Slip and fall, dog bite, medical malpractice and other injuries follow the ordinary rules above.
General information about Saskatchewan law, not legal advice, and the estimate is not a guarantee of any outcome. A lawyer can tell you how these rules apply to your case.
