Creative direction is driven by AKA's founding goal and intention to provide space for experimental practices by a women-led artist collective in Saskatoon. We are only relevant when we are agile and responsive, able to take risks for artists' ideas and concepts. It recognizes that emergent practices are possible at all stages of one's career. AKA prioritizes relationships that accommodate artists. It allows artists to direct their own path, reflecting on the artists' needs for support, education, and acquired experiential knowledge. A sense of community is based on shared ownership. This refers to artist-run centers, social responsibility, and the idea that a place can be given meaning and created by its users. This understanding is the foundation for creating kinships between artists, communities, and other partners. AKA is committed to the ongoing education and transparency necessary to be an ally and to meaningful acts of reconciliation/conciliation.
