Canadian Elite Academy (see Human Kinetics), established in March 2017, was created to fill the deficiencies found in traditional teaching and coaching. The most qualified coaches and instructors should always be available for individual skill instruction. Coaches with the right skills always attempt to offer individual training sessions that this does not involve team-building or competitions but enables all participants to be trained in one group. They allow a mix of genders and talents to focus on one element or skill for some time to use it in a different competition, challenge, or test in the future. In most sessions, the gender-based and age-tiering system used in schools and traditional sports events does not apply. This has been found to be a significant challenge for young participants because they tend to compare themselves with other athletes who are older, opposite gender or physically stronger and taller. This is always a concept that every athlete reacts differently to. Some of the athletes find it hard to accept because they are used to comparing themselves with others in games and measuring success. However, when they do not have games that measure success, many athletes tend to be less motivated because they lose focus and the drive to improve. As an athlete, you must always compete with one person, which is yourself, striving to improve tomorrow compared with today. Coaches can observe this growth, although athletes need to learn how to compete with themselves, not against others. Athletes will be less anxious and useful in themselves if they learn how to compete with themselves than against others (see Human Kinetics, 2021).
