Sherbrooke has a feel of an average small Saskatchewan community. Life goes on around us every day. We have 263 Elders, 100 Community Day Program participants, 500 volunteers, 500 students, family, and friends, and more than 500 employees in our community. We are a group of regular humans. We have aspirations and dreams. We want to live life as fully as possible. At Sherbrooke, Elders work, play, worship, paint, garden, and volunteer. Travel to our Community Centre and explore the shops. There is so much we could tell you about our normal lives. Sherbrooke uses the terms Elder and resident interchangeably. An Elder is a human with life-experience who agrees to learn from us. An Elder is defined as someone who has lived at Sherbrooke for a long time and might seem to have little in common with their age. We often use the term Care Partner. Care Partner is a concept. This concept refers to a care partnership. This concept refers to equal care. It acknowledges the value of both people. Care relationships can be one-dimensional. We can use different types of care partnerships. There are many types of Care Partners. They are Families, Elders, Residents, Staff, Volunteers, and Students. The Eden Alternative (r) believes that words create worlds. Language is essential for cultural change.
