Background Overview Sunnyside Adventist Care Centre is situated in a neighborhood with a view of the beautiful South Saskatchewan River. The river serves as the backdrop for the dining room where up to 97 residents dine. Also, a new multi-purpose room was constructed this year, with clear views of the picturesque courtyard. The vision of Sunnyside Adventist Care Centre is “To be a home that supports Christian values and one another to live a meaningful and abundant life.” This vision is still paramount, and the operators of the Centers strive to achieve it by removing loneliness, helplessness, and boredom from the lives of Sunnyside Adventist Care Centre residents. Historical Background Sunnyside is among the earliest nursing homes in Canada and opened in 1964. The Adventist Church in Saskatchewan ceased plans in 1959 despite identifying the need for a home for senior church members. The Adventist Church in Canada, in October 1959, resolved to build a nursing home in Saskatoon. Then Conference President Anthony Kaytor was actively involved in this decision-making process, planning, and construction. Sunnyside opened its doors to residents in 1964 with spaces for 68 residents, and this number was increased to 106 in 1968. However, the capacity was later reduced to 97 in 2003. Sunnyside is located on the banks of the South Saskatchewan River and has a large courtyard. Numerous changes and additions have been made over the years, with its location near the Saskatoon Seventh-day Adventist Christian School. Randy Kurtz has served as the Administrator since 2008.
