About Knox Auto Parts of Birmingham Knox Auto Parts was incorporated in August of 1995 by Joe and Tom Denton. Jim Denton, their oldest brother, was the co-founder who took over the family’s salvaged cars company originally located in Long Island NY. Their father, Joe Sr., retired shortly after the new company was founded. Knox Auto Parts has grown and now employs over 95 people. Tom Denton, the youngest brother, recalls growing up right next to the salvage yard. He says, “We lived next door to the yard and worked there every day in the summers, after school, and on Saturdays.” Jim Denton moved to Nashville in 1990 to pursue his dream of becoming a writer. In 1994, he became a renowned songwriter with a hit by John Michael Montgomery called “Rope The Moon,” even though elements of the song were part of him. In 1996, he joined his dad and brothers in the music business. Automotive salvage has seen a lot of changes over the past 20 years. There have been increases in corporate markets, and this has brought about increased competition. Jim Denton's thoughts on this were, "Corporate competition was good for us. It makes us keep a step ahead, and it has had a significant impact on our business practices". Despite the stiff competition, Knox Auto Parts has grown over the last twenty years. To keep ahead of competition, Knox Auto Parts became a founding team member of Team PRP in 1999. Team PRP members are the best in auto recycling. Knox Auto Parts and its 75 team members dismantle and process over 10,000 cars each month. We look forward to serving our customers for another 20 years.
