ABOUT   Services Excellence Summary

Southwest Behavioral & Health Services traces its origins back to 1969, when it was called St. Luke’s – Jane Wayland Community Mental Health Center. Following incorporation as a non-profit (501(c)3) in 1974, the firm became Phoenix South after the erosion of federal patrimony in 1979. Community Behavioral Health's purchase in 1995 expanded its size because it was one of Arizona's biggest community-centric mental health providers. The organization's 2000 purchase of Rim Guidance Center in Payson, Arizona was essential for a big, strategic goal: to widen the reach beyond Maricopa County and reduce dependence on a sole source. Southwest Behavioral & Health Services has thrived after over 40 years of good work, including the January 2011 purchase of the current Toby House, Inc. corporation and its belongings, which included over 170 SMI adults and employees/personnel and services. The organization's workforce is nearly 1,000 persons, including psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, and other support personnel who treat children and adults statewide. The firm has advisers and volunteers that represent the community's cultural diversity. SB&H is led by a Board of Directors with around 15 community volunteers. Our service territory comprises the metropolitan Phoenix region, rural Maricopa County, Gila, Mohave, Coconino, and Yavapai counties (Southwest Behavioral & Health Services, 2011).
