Architecture & Design for Buttrick Projects The Art House project added three small structures to two adjacent parcels. This step preserved the 1920s house where the architects’ children were raised. They more than doubled their living area. These new buildings will accommodate an expanding collection of art, an increased playroom for the kids, and an informal workspace. They wanted to create a private outdoor location where all family members could meet. While maintaining the neighborhood’s original character, they used new construction methods. The vast glass openings filter UV light, allowing natural light to touch the artwork. The perforated, corrugated zinc scrim on the second floor softens the daylight and creates a diffused light effect. The large sliding glass doors that fit into the walls can be hidden behind wall panels. These doors dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior spaces without being seen.
