Students must complete fifteen hundred (500) hours of practical instruction and technical instruction pertaining to all aspects of barbering as defined by Section 7316 of The Barbering and Cosmetology Act. Technical instruction is instruction through demonstration, lecture, classroom participation, or examination. Practical operation is the actual performance of complete services on another person or a mannequin. Students must become proficient in basic hair cutting techniques and hair styling for all textures of hair. An example of a government-issued picture identification ITIN or Social Security Card A High School Diploma or College Diploma or Highschool Transcript or College Transcript (Clearly stating that you meet all graduation requirements), GED or California State Proficiency Test, or an equivalent Documentation must be shown in order to show that the student's high school was approved (Ex. by the state, and a transcript or diploma issued) Students who have finished their high school education at home must present a valid certificate document from that state where the program they were taking was approved, showing an authorized individual's signature from the state in which the student's home study program is located. This is then sent to the school director of The Urban Barber College San Diego by the student as soon as they receive it. This document must be comparable to State High School Diploma requirements. If the state's requirements are below, they must ask their counselor to explain the requirements. (This may also apply to other states). Foreign High School Graduates: A valid high school diploma from the student's country must be presented by the student. Their high school diploma must be translated into English to confirm that these documents are academically equivalent to the U.S. High School Diploma standard.
