About this business

Montessori House of Children (MHOC) is a school that educates and guides children from 2 to 6 years. Dr. Maria Montessori's educational philosophy is the foundation of the Montessori School curriculum. Diverse and beneficial, Montessori's teachings are non-discriminatory and encourage the academic, emotional, and physical well-being of the child. We have been teaching and caring for children since 1976, promoting independence, critical thinking, and creative learning experiences. This has earned us a reputation as a quality preschool school and one of the best Montessori Schools in San Francisco. MHOC's transitional kindergarten, designed for 5-6 year-olds, prepares them for Kindergarten/Grade 1 with an emphasis on communication, exploration, and abstraction. Ms. Amala Wijesinghe, founder of Montessori House of Children, has over 45 years of Montessori teaching experience. She received her AMI Montessori Diploma from London's Maria Montessori Institute. Known as Ms. Amala by the staff and children, she began her teaching career in various Los Angeles schools. Ms. Amala moved to San Francisco, where she taught at Binet Montessori Montessori before opening her school in August 1976. Ms. Amala guides the school's educational standards and supports the program director, staff, and students daily. Her unwavering commitment to maintaining the high-quality standards implemented since the school's establishment is evident.
