Our financial planning journey began when we were 14 and learned about financial planning for the first time. Despite my father’s diagnosis of stage 4 cancer and his six-month life expectancy, he was the primary breadwinner and key financial decision-maker. She hired a financial planner to guide my mother in the years before my father’s death. When we began working together, we had many unanswered questions and may have worried too much. Could we stay in our childhood home? Could we afford college? My mother will have to retire in the Bay Area. We were worried about our assets and life insurance compensation from our father’s death. Building a direct financial planner framework and a timeline helped us establish a plan and process that provided clarity and confidence. There were key steps to follow and expectations. We were able to achieve the financial goals that my mom had. They advised us to regularly review and update our investment strategy. After we received the planner’s guidance, it was clear and concise, and we knew how to act. Part of what drives us is our own story.
