Since 1976, University of Phoenix has been providing access to higher education to working professionals and parents. We have improved adult students for 40 years. Malcolm Knowles, the father of adult education, figured out that adult learners are different from young, traditional college students because we need autonomy, experience, and self-concept. Other characteristics include readiness to learn, motivation, orientation to learning, and willingness to learn. Instructional design addresses these issues. It is different from being content-driven to being context-driven and emphasizes the real-world relevance of the application. In 1976, Dr. John Sperling, an economist and professor at Cambridge University, founded University of Phoenix. He created this university to respond to changing workplace needs and gave adults the education they needed and deserved. We have fulfilled his vision for forty years. We still do. Though times change, our goal is to improve people's lives by offering them education. We will work to move toward a bright future. Today, we are still here. Our students have access to a high-quality education and ongoing help. We also have a range of resources available to them. We can change our lives with this.
