Both my parents spent time at White Blossom. My dad for months over a period of 3 years and my mom for just 10 days. My dad fell at least 9 times. My mom fell 3 times. The third fall resulted in 10 days in the ICU where she died due to a subdural hematoma! This all took place over 4 years. After almost every fall I told White Blossom employees I would pay for and provide them with a wireless bed alarm so when my parents got up by themselves they would be alerted and could assist them. Almost every time I was told things like “we can’t do that in a care home, that’s illegal in a care home, hospitals can do that but we can’t, that couldn’t legally be done…” (The only person who didn’t tell me this just said nothing.) I later found out from the California Attorney General’s office that this is NOT illegal – a doctor just has to deem it appropriate. If anyone had told me that, I would have immediately talked to their doctors. Due to their lack of attention to my parent’s falling, refusing a device that would have alerted them and giving me incorrect information about this device, I feel White Blossom was a major part of my mother’s death. Everyone there was nice and helpful but that didn’t extend to accepting help that may have alerted them in time to prevent my mother’s fatal injuries.
