ABOUT   Services Excellence Summary

At the William Moore Law Firm, we have successfully handled criminal cases since 1997. We have resolved thousands of cases and built a reputation for winning. William Moore, a local prosecutor, has been defending clients in local courtrooms for over 22 years. Our firm has developed relationships with Broward County Prosecutors and investigators, forensic psychologists, and treatment and diversion program providers. He has gotten to try and receive a verdict on every type of misdemeanor and felony. Our Violations of Probation (including Record Sealing Expungement), DUI Defense DWLS and Drug Possession practice areas are handled by this firm. This article focuses on violent criminal defence cases, a subset of our criminal defence practice. Assault and Battery: An Overview From a criminal defence standpoint, violent offenses such as assault and battery are also unique. On an emotional level, understanding and seeing violence is paradoxical. Americans typically enjoy watching one-on-one fights. However, most people are very distressed by violent acts that are intentionally committed against another person. Acts of aggression against others, questions of whether the defendant was defending himself, and whether the alleged victim was truly “innocent” raise emotional issues in jurors as well as judges. Florida has been guilty of neglecting its responsibility to implement tougher laws on lower level battery crimes. The crimes are violent and worry many Floridians, but the law remains remarkably lenient. What is the Difference Between Assault and Battery Under Florida Law? The Florida criminal justice system divides crimes into violent and nonviolent categories depending on whether a weapon is utilized, the injury to the group, and the type of relationship between the parties. A crime of bad intent, even when it poses no severe risk of harm to another individual, is an assault. For example, if a person intentionally raises a knife towards another person's face but stops just before cutting him, that is an assault. Even if his face is not cut, his life was endangered by the defendant's attitude.
