I can only speak to the plumbing problem quality on my home- metal to metal fitting joined without teflon tape or pipe dope, foam insulation ( Great Stuff) used to seal CPVC pipe when pipe manufacturer specifically states it may cause pipe failure because of chemical actions, none of the plumbers I met working on my home were trained on pipe expansion so they didn't allow area for pipes to get longer with heat or shorter with cold and as an example ran a pipe right to a wood beam-not even allowing space for pipe insulation or pipe expansion, pipes had insulation missing in many places/ openings at elbows, straight pipe areas or just missing. I am still fixing loads of problems. One place behind the wall of my shower, a copper pipe was not replaced but he cut half way or more through the pipe and left it. I discovered so many problems that they refused to come back and fix them. Just another example, the outside spigot /hose bib had about 3 inches of exposed pipe which was well insulated before they came, When they left, I had a foot of exposed pipe at the hose bib and it was left poorly insulated. Showing no understanding of pipe protection during a freeze-try covering that with a foam cover. I went back and had to reinsulate this pipe but soon, I will have to replumb areas to allow for less exposed pipe and allow for pipe expansion behind the spigot. FYI- I had to point out these problems of insulation missing, cut pipe left behind the wall at the shower, no expansion provided, using the wrong pipe sealer and even then, I am left with many corrections/repairs to be made. Sadly, a typical home owner may not be trained to look for such problems.
