We met with Jose Guadalupe JR to get an initial quote. This first impression was great--he was presentable, good customer service, and answered all of our questions. In hindsight, he did talk about his faith quite a bit and how involved he was in church, which was clearly not in line with his later behavior.
After hiring them, we were required to sign a contract and pay 50% upfront. What we didn't know is that they then hired a sub-contractor that they had never used before. When the contractors arrived, they did not ring the doorbell or anything--they just let themselves in the backyard and began setting up. I went out to meet them but communicating was difficult as they did not speak English. I tried to remind them of a specific request we made clear to Jose JR--that was the paint was chipping on the soffits and required a vacuum removal. The first thing they did was hook up a pressure washer and started blasting the paint off the soffits. Thousands of tiny white paint chips went everywhere! I called Jose JR and he reassured me that it'll all be cleaned up.
Below are a list of issues that followed:
-Paint spray/debri in the yard
-Overspray on our patio & landscaping
-Wrong color painted on beams
-Walked on top of our awning after telling them not to
-Missed multiple spots
I do not like to micro-manage contractors, but this was so bad that I was calling Jose JR every 30 min just to relay these issues to the contractors in Spanish. After they walked on top of our awning, I told Jose JR that all of these issues were completely unacceptable and needs to fixed ASAP. He was understanding and reassured us that everything will be fixed "100%".
I had to travel for work the next day, so Jose worked with my wife to coordinate the repairs. They got another crew out this time and kept reassuring us that it'll be fixed "100%". They "finished" a day before I was getting back in town. This was when the customer service began to change. Jose SR (the dad) urged my wife to pay the same day they had claimed to be finished and was pushy about getting the payment ASAP. She told them that I would be back the next day and will inspect everything, then we can pay the remaining balance.
In less than 24 hrs, Jose JR and SR began blowing up my phone for payment. I did a quick inspection and sent a list of issues that still needed to be fixed. I gave them the option to either come down on price or address the issues--they offered to lower the price from $1,875 to $1,475. Later that day I was able to do a more thorough inspection. I found many of our pavers ruined, palm trees with paint overspray, and spent 4 hrs vacuuming paint chips from the ground and patio. Meanwhile, Jose JR and SR continued blowing up my phone. I explained the new findings—specifically, the ruined pavers that cost $15,000 to put in.
At this point, both Jose JR and SR become hostile. When I did speak to Jose SR on the phone, there was no chance of conversation. It was just Jose SR yelling accusations and threatening to submit a lien on the property—mind you, this was less than 2 days after they "finished" and still only 2 ½ weeks after hiring them. Shortly after speaking with Jose SR, Jose JR to come to our house and forcibly remove wood they had repaired on our detached garage (I.e. trespassing and destruction of property). This was such a drastic escalation that we called the cops. The cops arrived and I relayed the backstory as well as provided the text message evidence. The officer contacted Jose SR and made it clear they were not to come near our property nor contact us again.
I had to travel for work again in the next few days, so I reluctantly paid the remaining $1,475 to avoid potential danger to my wife and kids while I was away. This was such an unbelievable interaction from self-proclaimed Christians. Clearly, there is no way the 833 “5 star” reviews are authentic considering this is how they handle customer disputes.

Over a year ago, I contracted Lion Painting to Paint my Farmhouse in Dade City, Florida. Jose Father and Jose Son came and gave me a very reasonable estimate. Their team arrived early pressure cleaned my entire house very well and started painting that same first day. The next day they completed the painting including the wrap-around porch floors and the hundreds of feet of banisters. They did an excellent job and actually finished a day before they had estimated. I definitely recommend this company to all my friends in the greater Tampa area. They even pressure washed my 30-foot-tall brick chimney. Additionally, they cleaned up after themselves and retrieved all painting debris. Again, I wholeheartedly recommend Lion Painting for any painting needs. This review is a year late because we did not have internet at the farm. Just got it this week.
