About this Personal Injury Settlement Calculator

This calculator uses the multiplier method, the starting point most insurance adjusters and personal injury lawyers use. It adds your financial losses (medical bills and lost wages) to a pain-and-suffering figure, which is those losses multiplied by a factor set by how serious the injury is: 1.5 to 2 times for minor injuries, up to 4 to 5 times for catastrophic ones. The type of accident adjusts the result, and it is then reduced by your share of fault under Georgia law.

Georgia rules this calculator applies

Fault rule
Modified comparative fault (50% bar). Your payout drops by your share of fault. If you were 50% or more at fault, you recover nothing.
Deadline to file
You generally have 2 years from the date of the injury to file a personal injury claim in Georgia. Claims against a government body usually need formal notice much sooner, and medical malpractice and wrongful death claims can have their own deadlines.

General information about Georgia law, not legal advice, and the estimate is not a guarantee of any outcome. A lawyer can tell you how these rules apply to your case.

Frequently asked questions

9 questions
How does the Savannah personal injury settlement calculator work?
It estimates economic damages (medical bills, lost wages) plus pain and suffering using a multiplier on medical costs, adjusted for accident type and fault.
What factors can increase my settlement amount in Georgia?
Higher medical bills, lost wages, and severe injuries can increase your settlement. Pain and suffering are valued with a multiplier based on injury severity.
How is pain and suffering calculated in Savannah?
Pain and suffering are estimated by multiplying medical costs by 1.5 to 5, depending on injury severity, then adjusted for fault.
What is Georgia's fault rule for personal injury cases?
Georgia uses modified comparative fault. Your payout decreases by your fault percentage. If you're 50% or more at fault, you recover nothing.
How long do I have to file a personal injury claim in Georgia?
You have 2 years from the injury date to file a general negligence claim. Different deadlines apply for government claims, medical malpractice, and wrongful death.
Should I accept the first settlement offer from an insurer?
Generally, the first offer is lower than what might be possible. Consider consulting a lawyer to evaluate the offer's fairness.
How long do personal injury settlements take in Savannah?
Settlement times vary widely based on case complexity, injury severity, and negotiation length. Consult a local attorney for a more specific timeline.
What medical documentation is important for my claim?
Medical records, treatment bills, and doctor's notes are crucial. They substantiate your injury severity and treatment costs.
How do lawyer fees affect my settlement in Georgia?
Lawyer fees, often 33% to 40% of the settlement, are deducted from your payout. Free consultations are common to discuss potential fees.
