Journey Allen, who attended Southern University in New Orleans, transferred after Hurricane Katrina to Texas Southern University, where she received a full scholarship. Journey graduated with an Master of Arts in Fine Arts, under the tutelage of Dr. Alviawardlaw, Dr. Sarah Trotty, and Professors Jesse SiFuentes Leonard Brown, and Leamon. Mr. Leamon, the late Texas Southern University Professor, connected Journey with Project Row Houses, a nonprofit organisation in Houston's Third Ward. This was the beginning of a journey that would allow Journey to grow her passion for art and community. Journey's mentor, Hamdiya, taught Journey high-level leadership skills and life. Charles Washington was another mentor, and he introduced Journey to different art forms while also teaching Journey professional ways.
