Historic Renovation
Interior renovation of a Spanish-Revival building on Magazine Street, with state-of-the-art facilities and preserved architectural features. The makerspace that CICADA designed to house model-making tools, workspace, and 3D printers greets you upon entering. The central makerspace houses all other elements of program. It benefits from natural light on the South, West, and North facades. Programming was about flexibility and variety. To provide privacy and maximize natural daylighting, a mix of small huddle spaces, private telephone booths, lounge seating, and conference rooms are strategically placed along the exterior walls. The original wood windows have been rehabilitated and are now operable, letting fresh air in and the occasional cross-breeze. The open break room is the social heart of the office and has access to the outdoor balcony facing Magazine Street, where one can eat outside or watch Mardi Gras parades.
