About this business

George Rodrigue was born and grew up in Cajun country, Louisiana, U.S.A. He painted his fear of his heritage (including its people, land, customs, and mythology) vanishing from the earth. He frequently stated that he wanted to "graphically represent the Cajun culture" to safeguard it from a modern world. Rodrigue began his art studies at the Art Center College of Design and later at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. George Rodrigue's story is one of the most profitable in American art, due to his Blue Dog Series. The Blue Dog Collection, which began with the French Cajun Loup-Garou legend, earned him worldwide acclaim in the 1990s. Dark Renaissance-inspired landscapes progressed into modern mainstays. As a fervent volunteer, Rodrigue founded the George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts at www.rodriguefoundation.org, which supports the arts in education. The charity also provides scholarships and art supplies in schools.
